A hotel in the countryside minutes' drive to Torquay
The Sampson Farm Country Hotel is in a sleepy Devon hamlet near Newton Abbot, five minutes from the A38O to Torquay and the A38 to Cornwall. Originally a longhouse and set in its own grounds, Sampsons is a welcome change from the usual anonymous motels. The River Teign, meandering through the meadows, makes a beautiful setting for walks, just down the lane.
Sampson Farm Country Hotel
has a restaurant. What better way to end the day than to return to the farm, dine on delicious food and savour coffee and cognac by the fire, knowing that your warm comfortable room is just steps away?
This thatched farmhouse is older than Shakespeare, and provides the perfect retreat to relax and unwind. The house features medieval oak beams and screens, inglenook fireplaces with log fires in the winter, and even a priest's hideaway hole.

Other accommodation includes cosy rooms under the thatch in the farmhouse, an apartment, a ground floor en-suite for disabled guests, and rooms with a four poster bed.
A ground floor apartment is perfect for families, groups and guests with dogs.
All rooms have central heating, television, hot drinks facility.
Some rooms and apartments have beautiful views of Dartmoor, Moorland over Teign River Valley. and Devon country.
Overall opinion. People who stayed here have almost invariably given very high ratings to this hotel. Some typical guests' reviews:
"The hotel is set in very peaceful rural surroundings but within easy reach of several towns and beaches. The directions are clear and concise. The rooms are very generously equipped in comparison to many hotels."
"The farmyard setting of the hotel is very nice. The buildings are very traditional but have a slightly modern feel about them, and the whole location is very clean and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful. Due to the location I would not recommend it if you didn't have your own transport, but if you do, it is a very relaxing and peaceful environment from which to explore the surrounding areas. The breakfast is also very nice! Good points: The style of the buildings and the setting."
"Good directions (we didn't get lost which often happens with us). Arrived early but were met by friendly, efficient proprietor and welcome pot of tea. A visit (or several) to the restaurant is a must as the food is first class. Staff very accommodating and helpful. Would definitely stay there again if in the area. Excellent service in peaceful surroundings (especially good if you like ducks!)."
"Excellent. Great country getaway, one of the most friendly places I have stayed. The food is wonderful and when commented on, the Claridges' trained chef popped to our table for a chat. First class all round."
"Historic Building, Excellent Accommodation."
"A very quiet and clean hotel."
